Key Features

⚖️

Net-Weight Drum Filling for Large-Format Compliance

Large lubricant drums (20L, 60L, 200L) are sold by declared weight (e.g., "180 kg") in most industrial and automotive OEM markets. Net-weight filling using floor-mounted load cell platforms eliminates density variation errors that plague volumetric drum fillers — the fill weight is measured directly at the drum platform regardless of product temperature or viscosity changes during the shift. The system automatically compensates for drum tare weight variations (±0.5 kg between steel drums of the same nominal size) and fills to a configurable target weight ±0.05%.

🛢️

High-Viscosity Drum Filling for Gear Oil & Grease

Heavy gear oils (SAE 140–250) and industrial greases fill slowly through standard nozzles, creating air pockets and incomplete fills at high production rates. Our bottom-fill drum nozzle system submerges the fill tube to the bottom of the drum, filling upward to eliminate air entrapment. A heated product manifold maintains viscosity-consistent flow for products up to 50,000 cP without requiring product dilution or hot-fill protocols. The submerged fill approach also prevents aerosol splash from petroleum products — an important safety feature for enclosed filling facilities.

ATEX-Certified Option for Flammable Lubricants

Many lubricant products — particularly mineral base oils, solvent-cut gear oils, and certain hydraulic fluids — are classified as flammable liquids (flash point <60°C). Drum filling operations with these products require ATEX Zone 1 or Zone 2 certified equipment to comply with EU ATEX Directive 2014/34/EU and equivalent NFPA 30 requirements in North America. Our ATEX drum filling station uses spark-proof motors, intrinsically safe PLC I/O modules, earthing/bonding cables with continuity monitoring, and nitrogen purge capability for product tanks — providing a compliant turnkey solution for flammable lubricant drum filling.

Frequently Asked Questions

What drum and IBC sizes does the machine fill?

Standard configurations cover 20L jerry cans, 25L and 30L UN-certified plastic drums, 60L fiber drums, 200L steel drums (standard and UN certified), and 1,000L IBC (intermediate bulk containers). The fill nozzle and conveyor system adjust to each container format using recipe-based PLC settings. Multi-format lines can switch between 200L drum filling and 1,000L IBC filling with a 10-minute conveyor guide adjustment — no nozzle changes required for products in the same viscosity family.

How is the machine cleaned between different lubricant grades?

Grade changes within the same base oil family (e.g., SAE 10W-40 to SAE 15W-40 motor oil) require only a short flush cycle (5–10 minutes) using the previous grade as the flush medium. Cross-family changes (motor oil to hydraulic oil) require a full flush with an approved compatible solvent followed by a nitrogen purge to ensure complete solvent removal. The PLC stores separate flush programs for each grade change combination. Flush waste is collected in dedicated waste drums and processed as per your local environmental regulations.

What is the filling accuracy for 200L steel drums?

Net-weight filling accuracy is ±0.05% at the drum platform scale. For a 200L drum of 15W-40 motor oil (approximately 176 kg net weight), ±0.05% = ±88 grams per drum. This exceeds the accuracy requirements of most industrial lubricant supply contracts (typically ±0.1% to ±0.5%) and is well within EU Directive 2009/34/EC declared content tolerances for nominal quantities above 50 kg.

Can the drum filling machine also handle smaller containers like 4L or 20L?

Yes, with a format change kit (optional). The standard drum filling platform is optimized for 20L–200L containers. With a format change conveyor insert and height adjustment kit ($800–$1,500), the same net-weight filling head can fill 4L and 20L jerry cans at 10–20 cans per minute. This dual-format capability is popular with lubricant blending plants that fill bulk drums for industrial clients and retail jerry cans for automotive shops from the same production line.
