Pouch Filling Machine

Stand-up pouches (doypack): flat-bottom gusset, self-standing, most common for juice, sauce, baby food, laundry detergent. Spouted pouches: pre-fitted spout and cap for beverages, baby food and reusable consumer products. Flat pouches: simple 3-side-seal or 4-side-seal for single-serve condiments, ketchup sachets, travel cosmetics. The HEMUfill pouch filler uses a rotary gripper system with adjustable guide rails to handle pouch widths from 80 mm to 220 mm and heights from 100 mm to 380 mm on the same machine.

Thin liquids (1–500 cP): juice, water, wine, spirits, liquid soap — use peristaltic pump or piston at high speed. Medium viscosity (500–10,000 cP): sauces, ketchup, salad dressing, shampoo, hand wash — use piston filler with large-bore nozzle. Thick products (10,000–100,000 cP): honey, jam, thick cream, mayonnaise — use piston filler with heated hopper. Products with particulates (up to 10 mm): salsa, chunky sauce, pet food with chunks — use piston with wide-bore nozzle or lobe pump option.

Hot-bar heat sealing is standard: two heated bars compress the top of the filled pouch under controlled temperature (140–220°C), pressure (2–8 bar) and dwell time (0.5–2 seconds). Seal width is typically 8–15 mm. For products requiring zipper reseal, a zipper applicator station applies the track before the final seal. HEMUfill machines include a seal inspection station — vacuum-pull test detects leaks in line at production speed without removing pouches from the line.

Bottom-up (dive) nozzle: the nozzle enters the pouch from the top, descends to the bottom, opens and fills while slowly retracting upward. This prevents splashing, minimizes air entrapment and keeps the seal area clean. Vacuum suck-back: immediately after the fill valve closes, a brief vacuum pulse pulls back any residual liquid in the nozzle tip — eliminating drip. Nozzle retract sensor: if a pouch is absent from the fill station, the nozzle retract mechanism is triggered immediately and fill is aborted.

Peristaltic pump filler (50–250 ml pouches, thin liquid): 40–80 pouches/min. Piston filler (50–500 ml, medium viscosity): 30–60 pouches/min. Piston filler (500–2,000 ml, thick product): 10–30 pouches/min. Output decreases as pouch size and viscosity increase.
