A bulk bag filling machine, also called an FIBC (Flexible Intermediate Bulk Container) filler or jumbo bag filler, automatically fills large flexible bags (typically 500kg–2,000kg capacity) with powder, granule or pellet products. The machine clamps the bag spout to a sealed fill head, fills to a target weight via load cells (net-weight method) or by placing the bag on a platform scale (gross-weight method), then releases and the filled bag is conveyed away. Bulk bag fillers are used in cement, chemical, agricultural and food industries.

Net-weight filling: the bag hangs on the machine frame while product is dosed in and weighed directly via suspension load cells. Very accurate (±0.1%), typically used for high-value or regulated products. Gross-weight filling: the bag sits on a floor scale; product flows in and the total weight (bag + product) is monitored until the target is reached. Simpler, lower cost, but slightly less accurate (±0.2–0.3%) due to bag weight variation. Net-weight is preferred for food, pharma and chemical products; gross-weight is common for cement, construction materials and fertilizer.

Bulk bag fillers handle a wide range of dry bulk materials: cement, gypsum, fly ash, lime (construction & building materials); resin pellets, plastic granules, carbon black (plastics & chemical); wheat flour, sugar, salt, starch, soybean meal, animal feed (food & agricultural); fertilizer, potash, ammonium nitrate (agricultural chemicals); talc, calcium carbonate, silica, pigments (industrial minerals). For explosion-risk powders (ATEX classified), ATEX Zone 20/21 certified filling equipment is available.

Filling speed depends on the product flow rate and target fill weight. Typical throughput: free-flowing granules and pellets: 40–60 bags/hr at 1,000kg per bag (equivalent to 40–60 tonnes/hr). Fine powders (cement, flour): 20–40 bags/hr. Very fine or cohesive powders requiring vibration settling: 10–25 bags/hr. Fully automatic systems with automatic pallet dispenser, bag hanging robot and conveyor can achieve 60–100+ bags/hr with minimal operator involvement.

Standard FIBC bag sizes range from 500kg to 2,000kg capacity. The most common size is 1,000kg (1 tonne) bags. Bag dimensions vary: typically 90×90×120cm to 110×110×200cm. The filling machine frame is adjustable to accommodate different bag heights and strap configurations. Dust control is critical for fine powder applications. Standard options: sealed spout connection with dust skirt (prevents powder escape during filling); negative pressure extraction at fill point (captures airborne dust); enclosed fill chamber with filtered exhaust; vibration settling to compact powder and reduce dust during bag removal. For ATEX-rated powders, fully sealed pressurised filling in inert atmosphere is available.
