A beverage filling machine is a filling system designed specifically for liquid drink products — water, juice, carbonated soft drinks, tea, energy drinks and dairy beverages. Beverage fillers differ from general liquid fillers in three key ways: (1) they use CIP (clean-in-place) circuits to sanitise the product-contact surfaces between production runs without disassembly; (2) for carbonated beverages they use counter-pressure filling to maintain CO₂ in solution; (3) they are designed for high-speed operation (thousands to tens of thousands of bottles per hour) with continuous or high-frequency batch motion.

Counter-pressure filling is the technique used to fill carbonated beverages (soda, sparkling water, beer) without losing CO₂. The empty container is first pressurised with CO₂ to match the pressure of the carbonated product. The liquid is then filled against this back-pressure, so CO₂ stays in solution during filling. After filling, the pressure is slowly released before the cap is applied. Without counter-pressure filling, the carbonation would foam up and escape as soon as the liquid entered the container, resulting in under-fill, foaming and quality problems.

CIP sends cleaning solution and rinse water through all product-contact surfaces — product tank, fill valves, fill nozzles and associated pipework — without disassembly. A typical CIP cycle for a beverage line: (1) Pre-rinse with water to flush product residue. (2) Caustic wash (0.5–2% NaOH at 60–80°C) for 20–30 min. (3) Intermediate water rinse. (4) Acid rinse (0.5–1% HNO₃) for 10–15 min. (5) Final water rinse. Total CIP cycle time: 45–90 minutes. Juice and dairy lines may add a hot-water or steam SIP (steam-in-place) step for additional sanitation.
